Bolivar Peninsula
during the early years The above picture, reported to be of Charles Cronea, is from a tintype. The picture was furnished to me by Linda Winders of Georgia who says she is a direct descendent of Cronea. Charles Cronea is said to have been the cabin boy for the pirate Jean Lafitte. When Lafitte left the Galveston area Cronea remained behind and settled on Bolivar Peninsula. Many people in the High Island, Port Bolivar, as well as people located in other states claim kin to Cronea. The house pictured above is said to be the home built by Cronea. The house was constructed of cypress wood. It was remodeled in later years. Above is Charles Cronea's grave, headstone, and historical marker located in the High Island Cemetery.
